Start the celebration off by visiting some of over 30 sand sculptures commissioned by East coast artists. Smaller sized sculptures will be located all around Yarmouth and once they have completed individual works the artists will band together to create two massive half ton sand castles at Bass River Beach and Seagull Beach. Everyone is invited to view the creation of these works while enjoying their beach day.   In addition public sculpting contests at the beaches on Thursday, June 27, and Saturday, June 29 for anyone to have a fun go at creating pieces with helping hands from the artists (who are also judging).

The Friends of the Captains is sponsoring this golf tournament on Sunday, June 9th. It is a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start on the Starboard Course. The format is a 4-Person Team Scramble of the 4-person team. Prizes will be awarded for men’s, women’s, and mixed teams. You may sign up as singles, twosomes, threesomes, foursomes, or just dinner. The registration deadline is Sunday, June 2nd. The entry fee is $50 for Captains members, $90 for non-members, or $30 for dinner only. There is no better way to spend a a warm summer day than enjoying fine glass of wine. Take in a free wine tasting at the Cape Cod Winery in East Falmouth, only minutes from Cape Cod Hotels on Main Street Yarmouth. Here, they specialize in harvesting grapes for Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Grigio, Seyval and Vidal varietals. The vineyard is open year-round, but its summer hours until Aug. 30 are Thursday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wine tasting is available for $5 and includes a wine glass to take home with you. Cape Cod Winery tours are Summer Saturdays (July and August) at 2 pm.

More of a beer fan? Visit the Cape Cod Beer Brewery and take part in a Cape Cod Beer Tour instead. Tours take place daily Monday through Saturday at 11:00 am, and showcase the facilities, brewing instruments, brewery history, and a complimentary beer tastings.

From Falmouth/Route 28:Follow Route 28 into Centerville. Phinney’s Lane intersects Route 28/Falmouth Rd at the lights at Cape Cod Package Store. At these lights turn left and follow Phinney’s Lane for almost 2 miles across route 132 ( first set of lights) and Attucks Road (second set of lights). 1336 Phinney’s Lane is the second driveway on the right after the intersection at Attucks. If you get to Hathaways Pond or the route 6 underpass you have gone too far.

Bellamy’s loss was history’s gain, however, as the contents of his ship now allow those who step into the museum a unique look into the lives of the pirates, and an unprecedented cross-cultural sampling of treasures from the world of the 18th century.

Discovered by underwater explorer Barry Clifford, this archaeological shipwreck recovery project has been named a National Geographic Society “Special Event”, and the Provincetown Museum is the headquarters for our ongoing underwater archaeological missions.

Here you can see the world’s only pirate treasure–together with such fascinating artifacts as cannon, firearms, and more–plus learn the amazing history of this misfortune and the men who sailed the ship.

The museum also features lots of hands in exhibitons that will have any pirate fan hitting the decks. Little ones and parents alike can get involved and learn how the Wydah team recovers priceless treasures from the sea-bed, as you also help decipher the untold secrets of the pirates! If archaeology is an interest, guests can also interpret x-rays of mysterious heavily-encrusted objects and discover the painstaking and fascinating scientific work that preserves found items from the past.

Because of hard-to-spot and constantly moving shoals off-shore, Cape Cod’s coastline has been called an “ocean graveyard”, and is estimated to contain over 3,000 shipwrecks. In fact, between Truro and Wellfleet alone, there have been more than 1,000 wrecks, including that of the Whydah Gally, the famed pirate ship of Samuel Bellamy (for more information see our post about the Wydah Museum).

In 1857, lighthouses began to be built to serve as beacons to warn ships of the danger. Cape Cod Light is the oldest and tallest of these, and remains as one of a number of working lighthouses still on Cape Cod and the Islands. Cape Cod light is located in Turo and is open for tours every day from May through October. The lighthouse website has details and a calendar of other events like full moon tours.

Most of Cape Cod’s lighthouses are operated by the U.S. Coast Guard with some exceptions such as the Nauset Light, which was decommissioned in 1996 and is now maintained by a preservation society within the Cape Cod National Seashore. This lighthouse is
frequently photographed symbols of Cape Cod, and is even found on the Cape Cod Potato Chip bag.

It should be noted that Nauset Light is located in Eastham (and not at Nauset Beach in Orleans). Its tower was originally the twin to the Chatham Light down the coast, however it is now painted a distinctive red and white.

In 1996, both Cape Cod Light and Nauset Light were moved, because they were each at risk from storm and erosion. However, though their positions on the beach may have shifted slightly, they are still quite the same historical monuments to Cape Cod’s maritime history.

Bayberry Hills is a pristine golf course located in Yarmouth, Massachusetts. The course is one of the closest to Yarmouth hotels, and offers plenty of golf packages with Cape Cod accommodations in the area. This course was designed by Geoffrey Cornish and Brian Silva in 1986. The layout, slightly different from your average 18, includes three 9-hole courses, The Red Course, White Course and Blue Course. There is a rather larger pro shop on site, as well as golf pros available for instruction. All three 9-hole courses, referred to as Red, White, and Blue, feature water hazards, and views can be spectacular around sunset.

In addition, plenty of Cape Cod accommodations and Yarmouth hotels offer assistance in choosing golf courses, tee-time booking information, and even Cape Cod golf packages.

The ‘Marine Room’ provides a home for several fresh and saltwater fish, turtles, frogs, and small mammals that may be found in the waters or woods just off the busy roads of Cape Cod. Part of the room is also a‘Walk in the Woods’ center exhibit, where children can learn about several land and freshwater woodland creatures.

Nearby, the Seashore exhibit, visitors is complete with the opportunity to discover some local saltwater invertebrates like crabs, snails, and sea stars in a ‘touch pool’. Although exhibit animals may change with the seasons, all tanks and enclosures are designed to encourage learning and exploration through easy to read graphics that are great for inviting discovery.

The Bird Statium area allows visitors to meet some of the Cape’s best feathered friends up close and personal. A newly renovated salt water exhibit are now even provides a safe home for some of Cape Cod’s most recognizable bird residents, including the seagull, and can teach audiences about the importance of birds on Cape Cod. In fact, Bird Stadium is the Cape Cod dream home for several non-releasable gulls. However, instead of eating your lunch at the beach, you may you can see them here bathing, swimming, vocalizing, or even playing with toys.
