Dining Spotlight: The Yarmouth House

Noted by those who have never been for being the restaurant with the watermill along Rte. 28, and by patrons for its great food and greater specials, The Yarmouth House has become an easy Cape choice for traditional fine dining. Located on the main stretch of Main St. Yarmouth, it is an easy walk from Yarmouth hotels, especially for those looking to work up an appetite for a good steak.

This Cape Cod landmark traces its roots back to the old country, maintaining much of the old school charm and adherence to fresh ingredients. The Yarmouth House Restaurant was founded in 1978 by the Kounadis family patriarch, a man named Gerry Kounadis from Kefalonia, Greece. When he founded The Yarmouth House and he knew he had found a diamond in the rough. He brought with him his three children to help run the restaurant. With hard work and dedication, the restaurant became one of Cape Cod’s favorites, as it remains today.

In August 2006, Gerry Kounadis passed away, but his presence is still felt every day in the restaurant. He left behind memories of his great sense of humor, positive attitude, accommodating demeanor and his famous welcoming smile. Today, his son Chris runs the kitchen, the dining room is run by his son-in-law, Ted Zambelis, and his daughter Angie takes front of the house. Together they try hard to keep up the family’s goal of remaining a restaurant with the finest food at reasonable prices in an inviting and friendly atmosphere. The family owns and operates DiParma Italian Table  also nearby on Rte. 28.

As a token to Cape Cod tourism the restaurant offers numerous specials during the summer season and year-round, the most cherished being their Early Bird specials menu. Not to be outdone, The Yarmouth House also offers Dining Discounts and a special Dining Voucher to participating Cape Cod hotels like the Mariner Motor Lodge (a family hotel in Yarmouth).
